Fozzie - Michigan

7/3/2019

Fozzie's story started in Michigan where he was rescued.  While at the rescue, he was diagnosed with heartworm disease.  Unfortunately, this particular rescue does not treat heartworm disease prior to adoption, therefore Fozzie needed a special family to find him.  Luckily, he did.

Fozzie was adopted by his new family who immediately got him in to their veterinarian to start the process of getting him up to date and healthy which included a discussion on heartworm treatment.

Heartworm treatment is expensive and does not come without risks for the pet undergoing treatment.  Heartworm treatment can cost upwards of $700 or more, whereas heartworm prevention only cost approximately $150/year.  This obviously all depends on your area and the products used.

Thankfully, we were able to step in and help Fozzie's family, who had already done so much for Fozzie.  Fozzie's heartworm treatment is now complete and Fozzie is just waiting for the all clear!

Animals are suffering from heartworm disease and other parasite related diseases all over the world.  Help us to continue providing prevention to the healthy and treating the sick!

Bear received his 2nd treatment for heartworms yesterday and is finishing up with his third and final treatment today!  According to Bear's owner, Bear did really well following his first treatment!

Bear was rescued by his family after his original owner had passed away.  Read his full story here.

Although Bear is receiving his final treatment today, he still has some recovery time before he can begin his normal everyday life.  Did you know that heartworm treatment is nearly a 1 year process? Thankfully, preventative medications are available and are more cost effective than treatment!  Talk to your veterinarian about what heartworm prevention options are recommended for your area!

Bears owner says she is "Praying for a successful end to his heartworms and a long happy life for our sweet rescue Bear. He definitely has come a long way. He us a fighter!!! Thankful to your organization and all you do."

We are so thankful to have been a part of getting Bear back on his feet and ready to enjoy the rest of his life with his family.

Poppy has completed her heartworm treatment and will slowly be able to get back into her normal routine!

Her family reports that she loved the snow this winter but they are looking forward to her being able to fully enjoy the spring and summer!

As a rescued puppy mill dog, Poppy has so much to learn about love - but her family is well on their way to making her into a confident and spoiled girl!

We are thankful for Poppy's family for taking her in and giving her the love and healthcare that she hadn't received previously.  And we are thankful to be a small part of her recovery process!

Penny is a recently rescued boxer.  She had spent the last 2 years as a stray in the woods and had survived 2 major Florida hurricanes amongst other everyday challenges on her own.  Penny was caught by a rescue group and homed with her foster family.  The first day with her foster family, Penny escaped into the elements again.  Many efforts were made to bring her home,  After several months of time and energy put in to safely trap Penny and get her out of the woods she was safely trapped and put into a home, just in time for Christmas. Bringing Penny home was a cherished event, and even made the local news!

To no surprise, Penny is heartworm positive.

Penny received her heartworm treatment and is recovering well!

Poppy - Ohio

Poppy is 6 years old.  She was adopted from a puppy mill by her wonderful owners. At the time of her adoption, she was found with severely matted fur, living in deplorable conditions.  Poppy was initially very fearful of people, she wouldn't even look at her new owners.

Poppy was cleaned up and taken to her veterinarian for a check up.  Several days after her check up appointment,   through blood work, Poppy was found to be heartworm positive.  Poppy's owners were devastated but knew taking her back to the puppy mill where she was found was not an option.

Slowly but surely, Poppy has started to trust her new owners and is loving her new life.  Now, its our turn to do right by Poppy.  We have sponsored her heartworm treatment to allow her to live out the rest of her life happy and healthy.

Poppy received her first heartworm treatment injection on January 2nd and is well on her way to recovery!  Check back for updates!

Start of Treatment: 01/02/19

Bear - Mississippi

Bear is a roughly 5 year old longhaired black and tan male Dachshund.  Bear's original owner had passed away and no one had stepped up to take care of him.  Bear was posted on Facebook to find a new home after his owner passed away.  He bounced between a couple of homes before his current owner couldn't bare to see him end up in another bad situation and adopted him.

Bear was welcomed into a house with 3 new Dachshund siblings (two of which are also lucky rescues!).
When Bear's current owner found him, he was severely malnourished.  To make things worse, when brought in to his veterinarian for a checkup, Bear tested positive for heartworms.

Bear has slowly become stronger and has received the okay from his veterinarian to start his heartworm treatment!  We are happy to help Bear and his owner get him back to good health!

Start of Treatment: 12/19/18

Keep an eye out for more updates on Bear!
